https://MamaNatural.com 🔅 http://mamanatural.com/ For those mamas who are nervous about baby-led weaning but want their baby to try solid foods, here's a great tool that was recommended to me by a fellow YouTuber. It's the Sassy Teething Feeder, which runs about $5.00 on Amazon: http://amzn.to/kXIhU9

This feeder allows your baby to taste whole, fresh foods without the risk of choking because only small pieces fit through the cloth sieve. I love this concept because I want Griffin to taste different flavors but he still isn't ready to chew and swallow most food. Not recommended till their 6 months, this feeder may only be used for a couple of months but it's a great "bridge" from baby food purees to finger foods. (*Note: It could be used longer if used as a teether. More on teething in an upcoming video.)

But the real test was will Griffin embrace it. Will he eat broccoli this way? How about mango? Or banana? Check out the video to find out.

A few tips: don't use mushy food like avocado or overripe banana in this feeder as it makes it impossible to clean. You can also chill the base of this tool which allows you to take on the go (although I wouldn't want to as it kinda makes a mess.)

How about you? Have you used a tool like this? Was it a success? Pregnant? Check out my baby registry checklist:

http://mamanatural.com/ Part 1 of this series focuses in on a substance that's near and dear to most of us - but one that contributes to a host of illnesses from diabetes to adrenal failure to tooth decay.
This offender is so processed that it has absolutely no nutritional value. In fact, it acts as an "anti-nutrient," robbing your body of precious minerals.
What I'm talking about, of course, is sugar. And if you want to change your diet and change your life, this is the first thing you need to cut back on.
But don't worry! Your life won't be devoid of the sweet. We have taste buds targeted for sweet so we obviously are designed to want this flavor. Luckily, God created many sweeteners that are healthy to consume in moderation, many of which have been around far longer than refined sugar.
Here are three of my favorites.

Raw Honey: An enzymatic food filled with nutrition

Beekeepers live longer than anybody else. That's the rumor, at least. But there may be something to it. Raw honey contains loads of vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and C), minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphate, potassium, sodium chlorine, and sulphur), over 22 amino acids and antioxidants. It has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, disinfecting and healing wounds, scrapes and burns. It also soothes sore throats, coughs, and respiratory conditions.

Unlike other sweeteners, honey is pre-digested and easier on our internal system. When consumed with starches, the enzymes in honey actually help us breakdown complex carbohydrates. Maybe that's why oatmeal and toast are often paired with honey!

With all of this goodness, we have to remember that honey is still a sugar; it is comprised of glucose and fructose so it's best to use in small quantities. It is also vital to use raw, unfiltered, unprocessed honey which keeps all of its enzymes, co-factors, vitamin and mineral content alive. Heated honey that is transparent acts similar to the other bad sugars out there.
Honey is delicious in smoothies, teas, cookies, nut bars, granola, fruit salad, yogurt, etc.

Stevia: The sweetest herb of all
This green herb from the sunflower family, native to subtropical and tropical South America and Central America, is 300 times sweeter than sugar! Popular in other countries for hundreds of years, stevia is just recently taking off in the States.

Check this out: Stevia doesn't affect blood sugar levels; it doesn't feed Candida, and it's calorie free! And yet, to me, it is a "clean" sweet that doesn't set up cravings for sugar, carbohydrates, or other substances. There is some controversy about stevia's safety so be sure to do a little research and decide for yourself.

I use stevia in my yogurt, kefir, oatmeal, cheesecakes, and smoothies. It doesn't work well in baked goods as in larger quantities, stevia can be bitter.
Stevia comes in several forms... the whole dried leaf, the ground dried leaf which is a funky green powder, a more "refined" stevia that is white, and a liquid form which is more concentrated. Test out the different forms and find one that works for you. I like the liquid form as it blends the best.

When purchasing your stevia, find one that is a pure form as nowadays stevia products are filled with fillers like malodextrin, lactose, glycerin, and alcohol.

Brown Rice Syrup: A slow release sugar

Brown rice syrup is an excellent sweetener since it releases slower in the system like a complex carbohydrate, making it more compatible for people with blood sugar or digestive issues. That's because unlike honey and other sweeteners, brown rice syrup is made up of mostly maltose and maltotriose, sugars that take up to 2-3 hours to digest.

Brown rice syrup is created from cooked brown rice fermented by enzymes from usually sprouted barley. It has an earthy, buttery and nutty taste that works well in baked goods, sauces, desserts.

Other good alternatives

Real maple syrup is delicious and rich in flavor as well as an excellent source of manganese, zinc and other antioxidants. Be sure you purchase real, organic maple syrup as many of the commercial brands use formaldehyde in processing.

Date sugar is made up of pulverized dates and is loaded with fiber, potassium and iron. Denser in flavor and texture, it works best as a brown or granulated sugar substitute. It will color your desserts with a brown hue.

https://MamaNatural.com 🔅 http://mamanatural.com/ Do you use light salad dressing? Fat free cream cheese? Low-fat margarine? Then this video is for you!

Here's our video about good, safe olive oil: http://mamanatural.com/virgin-olive-o...

Part 3 of our Change Your Diet, Change Your Life focuses on something I used to be afraid of... FAT. In the nineties, I lived on fat free foods, not knowing that I was filling up with sugar and chemicals that left me nutritionally depleted and HUNGRY.

I believed that fat makes you fat, right? WRONG. As proof of this, a few years ago, I did a crazy diet that was nearly 70% fat, and I didn't get fat.

Fat is necessary for a healthy diet. Not only does it lubricate our joints, digestional tract and skin, fats help us digest and assimilate nutrients from our food, nourish our cellular walls, and promotes satiety and balanced blood sugar levels.

But just like sugars and salts, it's vital that we consume the right kind of fat. We want to steer clear of hydrogenated oils or trans fats, which contribute to heart disease, and too many omega 6 fats such as soy, cottonseed, and corn oils found in most packaged foods, which leads to inflammation, depression and ill health. In fact, did you know that canola oil, an omega 6 darling of the restaurant industry, is classified as a pesticide with the EPA? Not only that, but it's also listed a toxic for human inhalation. And we ingest this stuff?!

But, luckily, there are a host of delicious, nutritious fats from avocados, to tahini to raw cream. Fish oils are also important, heart-healthy fats but... uh... they don't taste quite as good. I like them in capsule form.

Here are 3 of my favorite fats:

Olive oil
Rich in monounsaturated fats and antioxidants, olive oil is a one of the most ancient fats around. Extra virgin olive oil is filled with polyphenols that can help reduce our risks for heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's and type 2 diabetes. Olive oil has also been shown to lower LDL cholesterol and blood pressure while stabilizing blood sugar levels and reducing inflammation in the body.

Olive oil is best raw in salads and bread dip. There's some who believe that heated olive oil isn't as healthy since unsaturated fats aren't as stable at high heat but I figure it's been used this way for thousands of years in the Mediterranean and they're known for their healthy people.

Butter
Did you know that at the turn of the century, butter was one of 7 food groups? Did you also know that heart disease was rare? Fast-forward 60 years, and it was our number one killer. What changed? Well, we certainly weren't eating any more butter. In fact, we went from eating eighteen pounds per person per year to four.

Butter is a wonderful fat that contains one of the most absorbable forms of Vitamin A, D and K. These are important fat-solulable vitamins that help us absorb other minerals like calcium and phosphorus. Butter contains conjugated linoleic acid, which is a potent anti-cancer agent, muscle builder, and immunity booster.

And let's face it people... IT'S DELICIOUS. So stop feeling guilty about buttering your toast. Enjoy it! It's best to buy raw butter from grass-fed cows. Spring and summer butter is richest in vitamins since we benefit from all of the cows grazing on fresh vegetation. Butter is great to cook with since saturated fats tolerate heat very well. It's also good on popcorn, in cooked meals or straight off the spoon.

Coconut oil
Did you know that coconut water was used in World War II as a replacement for blood transfusions? Did you also know that coconut oil has almost identical fat profile as breast milk?

Clearly, coconut is king in terms of nutritional content and because of this coconut oil is one of my favorite fats.

Coconut oil is nature's richest source of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), which is much easier for your body to digest. In fact, these fats are sent directly to your liver to be converted into energy rather than being stored as fat. Because of this, many people have had success losing weight by replacing their regular oils with coconut.

Like breast milk, coconut oil has the highest lauric acid content of any food on the planet. This wonderful fat has antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial properties for the human body.

Coconut oil is delicious in smoothies, baked goods, popcorn and even in tea. Be aware that it does have a coconut flavor so be sure you don't mind that flavor in the foods you are preparing. Also, when consuming raw, be sure to start slowly as some people have a "healing reaction" due to properties in oil.

How about you? What are your favorite fats?
